ABOUT THE
CALIFORNIA STORM & TEAM TAURASI
The California Storm
Basketball Club was founded in 1997 and since 1998 has been one of just 20
elite Nike-sponsored club basketball programs in the United States.
California Storm became the first girls' basketball club in history to be
affiliated with a professional athlete. Sponsored by six time WNBA
All-Star, two time Championship MVP, and two time U.S. Olympian, Diana
Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury, TEAM TAURASI assumes the role of the
Storm's most competitive team and represents the club at Nike Nationals. Team
Taurasi and California Storm teams all wear signature apparel specifically
designed Nike and approved by Diana Taurasi.

EXPOSURE
& RECRUITING ASSISTANCE
California Storm coaches and
administrators are well respected by college coaches and have developed
relationships with coaches from virtually every major NCAA Division I
College and University in the nation. Storm coaches work tirelessly
with and for you to find your daughter the best collegiate opportunity and
situation for her future.
SCHEDULE
For the past six years, The
California Storm has been one of just 16 teams in America to receive
an automatic bid to the Nike
Nationals in North Augusta, South Carolina. Nike
Nationals, the only summer girls' basketball event wholly owned and
operated by Nike Elite Youth Basketball, is the premier girls' travel team
tournament in the country. The event is held at the Riverview Park
Activities Center in North Augusta, South Carolina and showcases 20 Elite
Nike travel team programs along with 16 of the nation's premier Elite 15U
teams. Nike Nationals is recognized as the most exclusive and
competitive event in the Nation.
Along with Nike Nationals in South Carolina, the California Storm competes
in some of the most competitive club basketball events in the country,
including the Boo Williams Invitational (Hampton, VA). The Boo
Williams Nike Invitational is a staple of the NCAA-Certified spring
viewing period. It gives new up-and-comers a chance to test their game against
some of the best and brightest at the grassroots level of girls' high
school basketball.
The Nike
Summer Showcase is considered by most analysts and collegiate
basketball coaches to be the most competitive and prestigious summer
basketball event in the United States. Featuring 288 teams and close
to 4,000 student-athletes from 44 states and Canada, the Showcase is one
of the largest and most geographically diverse basketball tournaments in
North America. It remains one of just four elite Nike-sponsored girls'
basketball events conducted in the July observation period, status it has
held since 1999.
In 2010, a record of 551 collegiate coaches actually registered their
attendance (including representatives from virtually every NCAA Division I
and II institution along with dozens of Division III, NAIA and junior
college coaches) and the Nike Summer Showcase expects to eclipse this
record in 2011. This Showcase will host 288 teams from every region
of the country and feature 916 games over a five day period held during
the July observation period.
The Nike
Oasis Invitational (Phoenix, AZ), which has quickly grown into one of
the largest and most successful girls' basketball events in the Western
United States; is also one of the most competitive events. This
event features over 200 teams and over 200 college colleges from Division
I, II, II, NAIA and junior colleges from all over the west coast.
All of the these selected events are during the NCAA observation
period and are chosen to provide maximum competitiveness and exposure for
your child.
STORM
ALUMNI
Storm alumni include active
WNBA players Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis (both first round draft picks
out of Duke University) as well as dozens of current and former NCAA
Division I stars. A list of some of our Storm Alumni can be found on
our Alumni Page.
NIKE
DREAM LEAGUE
Storm members and alumni
participate in the Nike Dream League. The Nike Dream League is a
premier showcase league and is also a spring stage which
both established and undsicovered high school players showcase their
skills. Completely designed to help players maintain and hone their
skills through competitive league play, one of our goals is to prepare our
athletes for the July NCAA evaluation period.
Players interested in trying out for one of the Storm’s
elite 2012 travel teams should complete this brief tryout
registration form.
