ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA STORM

 

The California Storm Basketball Club was founded in 1997 and since 1998 has been one of just 32 elite Nike-sponsored club basketball programs in the United States. The California Storm Basketball Club is a premier youth basketball program focusing on teaching young athletes, who possess a passion for the game and a strong desire to develop and improve their fundamental basketball skills. California Storm is one of the most respected and most recognizable organizations in the nation.

In 2009, California Storm became the first girls' basketball club in history to be affiliated with a professional athlete. The Storm's most elite travel team became Team Taurasi, sponsored by 3-time Olympic Gold Medalist Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury.  In 2014, Team Taurasi captured the Inaugural EYBL Nike National Championship.  Team Taurasi players wear signature Nike apparel specifically designed by Nike and approved by Diana.

 

 

 

ELITE YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE (EYBL)

 

 

A player’s potential is often identified at one of the many sponsored NIKE Basketball events. The Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL), which will consist of four regular season events in Virginia, Illinois, Tennessee, and South Carolina will provide structure to the NIKE Travel Team circuit and allow teams to compete for an ultimate goal each summer of winning the EYBL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.  The EYBL finals will be played at the most coveted tournament of the summer, the NIKE NATIONALS in North Augusta, SC (July 25-30).

 

 

 

 

STORM NIKE SCHEDULE

 

The California Storm compete in the most competitive local, regional and national basketball club events.  Events are selected during the NCAA observation period and are chosen to provide maximum competitiveness and exposure for your child.

 

 

 

Boo Williams Nike Invitational

 

 

The Boo Williams Nike Invitational is a staple of the NCAA-Certified spring viewing period. It gives new up-and-comers a chance to test their game against the best and brightest at the grassroots level of girls' high school basketball. All 32 EYBL Nike sponsored teams battle for supremacy at the Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hampton, Virginia

 

 

 

 

Nike Nationals

 

For the past eight years, The California Storm has been one of just 24 teams in America to qualify to compete in the Nike Nationals in North Augusta, South Carolina. Nike Nationals, the only summer girls' basketball event wholly owned and operated by Nike Elite Youth Basketball, it is the premier girls' travel team tournament in the country. Nike Nationals plays host to the EYBL Nationals Championships.

 

Team Taurasi travels to the Nike Nationals to compete against the nationals top 17U programs. The format showcases the top 24 Elite Nike teams in the Country selected from four divisions. Nike Nationals is recognized as the most exclusive and competitive event in the Nation. Here is where the EYBL NATIONAL CHAMPIONS are crowned!

 

 

 

 

Junior Nike Nationals

The Junior Nike Nationals features 24 of the nation's premier 16U teams, competing in front of hundreds of college recruiters, scouts and evaluators. California Storm National team represents our program in this most prestigious Nike event. Each summer this tournament is played at NIKE NATIONALS in North Augusta, SC (July 25-29).

 

 

 

 

Nike National Invitational Tournament

 

 

The Nike National Invitational Tournament held in Chicago Illinois, is considered by most analysts and collegiate basketball coaches to be the most competitive and prestigious summer basketball event in the United States. Featuring 400 teams and close to 5,000 student-athletes from across the United States, the Showcase is one of the largest and most geographically diverse basketball tournaments in North America. It remains one of just four elite Nike-sponsored girls' basketball events conducted in the July observation period, status it has held since 1999. In 2014, more than 661 of collegiate coaches where in attendance and the Nike National Invitational expects to eclipse this record in 2015.

 

 

 

Nike Oasis Invitational

 

 

The Nike Oasis Invitational (Phoenix, AZ), which has quickly grown into one of the largest and most successful girls' basketball events in the Western United States; This event features over 200 teams and over 200 college colleges from Division I, II, II, NAIA and junior colleges from all over the west coast.

 

 

 

 

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

Our premier basketball program is unmatched in offering year-round training, focused on proper decision making in game like situations, individual offensive and defensive skill development, strength, speed, and agility training. We prepare our young athletes to compete at their highest level by teaching them skills that are integral to properly transition to collegiate and professional levels. California Storm offers a variety of athletic training programs for those who are serious about taking their talents to the next level.

 

EXPOSURE & RECRUITING ASSISTANCE

California Storm coaches and administrators are well respected by college coaches and have developed relationships with coaches from virtually every major NCAA Division I College and University in the nation. Storm coaches work tirelessly with and for you to find your its members the best collegiate opportunity and situation for their future.

 

MISSION STATEMENT 

The purpose of the California Storm and its coaches are to develop fundamentally complete players who will be prepared to succeed immediately at the high school and collegiate level. California Storm maintains the highest standards of integrity for our staff members. Our criteria or selection process for choosing coaches is evident in all of our coaches' appearance, demeanor, and interaction with your child. All Storm coaches are experienced, knowledgeable professionals who have proven ability to teach and develop young athletes. Throughout the training process each athlete will be encouraged, valued, and respected, and their welfare and success will always be a primary concern.

 

STORM ALUMNI

Storm alumni include active WNBA players Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis (both first round draft picks out of Duke University) as well as dozens of current and former NCAA Division I stars.  A list of some of our Storm Alumni can be found on our Alumni Page

 

 

STORM DREAM LEAGUE

Storm members and alumni participate in the Storm Dream League.  The Storm Dream League is a premier showcase league and is also a spring stage which both established and undiscovered high school players showcase their skills.  Completely designed to help players maintain and hone their skills through competitive league play, one of our goals is to prepare our athletes for the July NCAA evaluation period.
